Week 8 - Flickr

This week i set up a flickr account I began the process by setting myself up on yahoo and from there I led myself to flickr. I began to use it it was straight forward and I felt it was simple to use.
I Then started adding photos and tags. I decided to add photos from college work etc. I also added tags relating to college work. I also uploaded a photo of my college crest.

I hope to keep adding photos to my flickr it seems to be good for storage of photos and videos.

A day without social Media

A lecturer for one of my modules challenged me to a day without social media at the time I was unsure if I would be able to complete it but i decided to give it a go.
As the day started it seemed simple I didn't find it challenging at all until the afternoon. Because I use Facebook to organise a lot of my group meetings and share information about research I had done or my group members had done I found it challenging. If i'm honest I may have looked at Facebook once throughout the day, the temptation had been killing me but after it I was mad because with no surprise there was nothing essential that I had missed. Although taking into consideration my slip up in my defence I didn't look at snapchat(Which is a major deal for me) or twitter etc for the entire day.
Although it was a good experience to try a day without social media it is sad to see how much we depend on it. I am going to encourage my friends to try a day without social media as a way for us to realise just how much we depend on our social sites.

Week 4 Diigo

In week 4 we set up a bookmark button on our browser.
The process was problematic for me as it wouldnt work on my safari browser for admin reasons but I changed to google chrome and it worked perfectly. I feel that this tool will encourage me to bookmark websites and it will be easier to file the websites which I like to use online.
Diigo has many features including being
1. a Highlighter
2. Taking notes
3. Screenshots
4. Searching
5. Collaborating and using groups
6. Bibliography
7. Sharing
All these features are very useful in the life of a college student that uses many different websites for many different modules. Using Diigo we can collaborate all our information together online.

Week 5 - Prezi

In week 5 we learned how to use prezi. I found this very useful as we are now planning on using press in our group project! I am interested to see how it goes.

As the weeks have went on i have used prezi in a lot of my modules it has come very helpful and an alternative than using Powerpoint making things a lot more interesting.

Week 3 - Magic8ball

In week 3 we continued to work on MIT app inventor. This week we created magic8ball. I found this interesting as we went further in the process of making an app than we had in Hellopurr. In this we downloaded and tested the app. I feel like this will become useful when we create our app in group projects. MIT inventor comes across as very complicated and scary at first as it is a whole new subject and I have never pursued anything like this before. I feel like the challenge is great, and apps are a huge thing in todays society. It is even more compelling to be able to see the work that goes on behind the use of an app.

Week 2 - Tutorial

In our First tutorial in Newstead with Shane on the 30th of January 2015 we learnt how to create an app.
We began by creating a simple app called Hellopurr where we added a photo, a vibration and  a meow sound. This exercise will come in useful when we are creating our app for this module. We began by setting up our app on appinventor, we then added the photo which was all quite straight forward.

I then added the vibration which I understood also. The hardest part of this I felt was joining the vibration with the sound clip. Although when I realised how to do it I felt silly it took me so long to get my head around it.

Overall this exercise proved useful for our project and it challenged me which I felt was beneficial.
